VANS was founded in 1966 by brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren and Gordon Lee and Serge Delia as The Van Doren Rubber Company in Anaheim, California. The first shoes to be created were Vans #44, now known as Authentic. In 1976, Vans #95, now known as Era, was created, designed by Tony Alva and Stacey Peralta. In the same year, the Vans "Off the Wall" logo appears. In 1977, Vans #36, Old Skool, and #98, Slip-On, were released. A year later, #38 - Sk8-Hi is created. In 1988, Vans signed by Steve Caballero were presented - the legendary Half Caby. In 2001, Vans helped produce "Dogtown and Z-Boys," a film that gave Stacy Peralta a look at the early days of skateboarding and the personalities that shaped the sport. The film receives the audience award and the directing award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2010, Vans opens House of Vans Brooklyn, a retail and event space in New York, and in 2014 opens House of Vans in London. In May 2015, Vans makes skateboarding history with the release of the highly anticipated PROPELLER: A Vans Skateboarding Video, the first skateboarding video from Vans. This unique event catapulted Team Vans Pro Skate to international prominence and further highlighted the importance of the Vans brand to the history of skateboarding. PROPELLER becomes the fastest-selling skateboarding video on iTunes.
